Souper Bowl of Caring - Feb 03, 2008

RELIGIOUS ED CLASSES

This week and next week, the young people of the parish who are preparing for Confirmation reflected on the importance of gathering for the Church community.  The act of gathering joins us to the Church, the Body of Christ, and allows us to enter into the saving work of Jesus.  How do we as a parish come together to pray and celebrate our unity in Christ?

Religious Ed and Confirmation Classes:

There are no more High School Religious Education or Confirmation classes. We are finished for another year! Registration for next school year’s classes will start in August and classes will start in September. Registration packets will go out to those registered parishioners at the beginning of August. Call Michelle at 478-5011 if you have any questions in the meantime.

Confirmation - DATES AND INFORMATION

This week your confirmation candidates are preparing for Confirmation by reflecting on the meaning of God’s gift of peace and its expression in the Church’s liturgy.  We are given the gift of the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Peace, who empowers us to be instruments of peace and reconciliation.  How are we as a parish living as peacemakers?

Confirmation Info

On April 29th we had 85 candidates that received the Sacrament of Confirmation from Archbishop Gomez.  Take time to welcome our confirmandi as they begin their journey of faith as a full member of the Catholic Church!  Congratulations to all!

Confirmation Documentation Still Needed:

OUR SECRETARY IS STILL MISSING SOME LEGAL DOCUMENTS, BAPTISMAL CERTIFICATES, AND SOME SPONSOR FORMS FOR SOME OF OUR CONFIRMATION CANDIDATES. THE DATES FOR THE CONFIRMATION CEREMONIES ARE RAPIDLY APPROACHING, AND WE NEED TO HAVE THESE MISSING RECORDS ASAP. WE MUST HAVE THE NECESSARY INFORMATION BEFORE A CANDIDATE MAY BE CONFIRMED. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS CONCERNING THE COMPLETENESS OF YOUR CONFIRMATION INFORMATION, PLEASE CALL MICHELLE WEEKLEY AT 478-5011!!!

May 12 (Monday) 7:00 p. m. in the church – Archbishop Gomez

Those in Mr. Paglia’s (room 207), Ms. Olvera’s (room 204) and Mr. Jaworski’s class (room 205) will be in the May Ceremony.

These dates are interchangeable for any candidate who cannot be present on their assigned day; however, you must let Michelle Weekley know so that your candidate will be included in the correct day.

Practice for the May 12th celebration will be May 11th at 7:15 p.m. in the church.

(Yes, we know this is Mother’s Day, but it will only be for about one hour)

These practices are mandatory, if the candidate does not attend, they will not be able to be confirmed.

Please remember that each candidate must complete a Day of Reflection and provide proof of a Service Project as requirements to receive Confirmation.  If these requirements are not completed, the Candidate will not be able to be confirmed.

If you have not gone to Confession yet this year, you still have time either go on a Saturday evening from 4:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m., or make an appointment with a priest.

Please call Michelle Weekley at 478-5011 if you have any questions.

UPCOMING EVENTS

If you never get involved - You'll never know the fun you're missing.

TAKE TIME FOR GOD

So many times we get so caught up in our lives that we forget just who it is that has given us everything we need to be thankful for.  In her book “One Minute Praises” by Darlene McCarty, she states “Be careful when everything seems to be spiraling upward as if nothing could go wrong.  Remember from where you came.  Let’s not forget who gave you breath and the strength to work.  Satan will temp you with a small voice saying, “Who do you need God right now? Look where you have come from and how hard you have worked to get where you are.  You deserve a day at the lake with the family.  I know it’s Sunday, but he’ll understand this once.   Before long, you find yourself only going to church on Easter, Mother’s Day and Christmas.  What happened?  Pride set in.  You thought you were able to control everything around you and that your success was within your own power to dictate.  But one day, unexpectedly your world falls apart.”  Don’t forget to take time out each week, especially during Lent, to spend with God in prayer.  Take time to be a part of his church, do things for your community, give back for all the blessings you have been given.  In the end, it will be the church and your church family that will always be there for you, in good times and in bad.
